INTRODUCTION. Fluoxetine (Prozac®, Eli Lilly and Company, Indianapolis IN) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) commonly used to treat depression and for other psychiatric indications. You must wait at least 14 days after stopping an MAO inhibitor before you can take Prozac. You must wait 5 weeks after stopping fluoxetine before you can take thioridazine or an MAOI. SSRIs (the class of drug that Prozac is in) are remarkably safe as far as medications go; if you took an extra dose by accident, you might not notice it at all, and have no ill effects.
